The North Bennett Street School and Nahrmann Bass both celebrate and uphold classical music

The North Bennett Street School in Boston’s North End teaches students how to build violins by hand. Over three years, students will create six violins and a viola, which they get to keep. Some students sell those instruments to jumpstart their post-school careers.

Volker Nahrmann owns Nahrmann Bass in Billerica. He rents, sells, and repairs basses at his shop. Nahrmann is also an accomplished musician. He’s the principal bass with Symphony N.H. He also plays, writes, and composes in his band with Randy Armstrong, Beyond Borders.
