Imran Azim Iskandar, a Form 5 student who did Sarawak and the country proud at the World Championship of Performing Arts in United States, received a warm welcome at Sibu airport.
The teenager was greeted by Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng, his school principal Abdul Rahman @Nicholas and his family members.
At the event in Anaheim, California, Imran Azim emerged not only the world violin champion in the classical category but also won a silver medal each in the contemporary and original works categories.
He also bagged a bronze medal each in the jazz and open categories.
Chieng said,“We now know that Sarawakians can be world champions as long as we are willing to learn, study and train hard.”
Chieng pledged to reward Imran for his achievements, calling him a role model for other young people.
“I will visit Imran’s school, SMK Bukit Assek, to announce the incentives from my side,” said Chieng.
